When Ely's beloved dog, Tommy, is hit by a car, he goes to his grandpa's house for the summer to get his mind off things. While exploring a nearby cave one day he discovers a full-grown but friendly Tyrannosaurus Rex. As the news of the dinosaur grows around town, so does the friendship between Ely and his Jurassic pet. But Randy, the mean kid down the street, decides he's going to make life miserable for Ely and his dinosaur-to devastating effect.

A really positive 3 stars! Everything TenNapel does is sweet, just a bit narratively weird (in a good way!), seen through his own unique lens on the world. A little boy's dog dies, his parents send him to hang out on his grandfather's farm, a T.Rex who turns out to be his reincarnated dog (because why the heck not!) shows up and they... This was a really sweet and creative book. Ely lost his dog who was then somehow reincarnated into a T-Rex (go with it). It was a quick and easy read and the characters were amusing. The ending, although a tad predictable, was sweet. This book is called tommysauras Rexes by Doug Tenable and is based on the genre fantasy. Where and when does this book take place? This book takes place in a farm rural side of a country and its in the present day. I think this is fantasy because it includes a dinosaur in the present day which is not normal, but is FANTASTIC.
